Bernard Bertram has been active in the real estate business for more than 25 years. Bernard’ s early years in the real estate business were focused on the purchasing and management of multi-family buildings in the 5 Boroughs of New York City. Bernard built a portfolio of over 2,500 residential units and sold his entire portfolio to a residentially focused hedge fund when the market conditions were favorable. Sensing similar opportunities in the commercial office sector, Bernard founded Shelbourne in 2012, and has been at the helm of the company since its inception.
Bernard focuses his efforts on overseeing the management of the Shelbourne portfolio with a specific view towards cost containment and reduction, use of synergistic advantages to reduce overhead, fine tuning employment skills to leverage employee coverage throughout the portfolio and investor relations.
Bernard Bertram is very active in many communal charities and philanthropic causes. Most notably, he serves as the Treasurer for Chai Lifeline – an international, non-for-profit, volunteer-based organization which specializes in offering support services to children battling cancer and other chronic illnesses.
Prior to founding Shelbourne, Ben specialized in buying performing and non-performing debt. Ben offers unparalleled expertise and resources to real estate investors and strategic partners. With a decade of hard-won results in the commercial sector, Ben has been responsible for the acquisition and integration of more than eight million square feet of some of the best Class A office buildings in secondary and tertiary markets. In addition, Ben has established a unique approach in the acquisition and financing of these properties.
As a driving force responsible for the growth of the company, Ben is also overseeing the redevelopment of Pratt Street in downtown Hartford, CT. Through a mixed-use residential, retail and recreational conversion, Pratt Street is becoming the hub of the Live Work Play ecosystem.
Ben has a controlling interest in CAT Health Partners, a health care related company which offers management consulting to healthcare companies including nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
